The Anchor, Shapwick

Tucked away down a road off the avenue between Blandford Forum and Wimborne and nestled near to the River Stour is Shapwick.  This small village was once the site of the Roman town of Vinocladia, and the road that takes you to the village is on the original Roman route which, if you are heading north, carries on past Badbury Rings and on towards Salisbury.

The Anchor hasn’t been around since Roman times but the food is fit for an emperor.  Their menu changes regularly so it’s best to check their Facebook page here for the latest dishes on offer.  Whether it’s a feast you are after or a light lunch it’s worth a trip.

The Anchor is a 12 minute drive from Old Red Lion House.

Being close to Badbury Rings you can always take a walk around this Neolithic hill fort to burn off those calories from lunch. We’ve written about this walking location here.
