Hod Hill

Perched above the meandering River Stour, Hod Hill has stunning views over rural Dorset and is home to spectacular wildflowers and butterflies.  There are a choice of walks here: either a climb to the fort and a loop around the ramparts before returning down the hill, or a circular 3 mile route to the fort then back around the hill following the course of the river.

This hill fort was occupied from the Iron Age and two of the entrances through the ramparts are from this era, the others are Roman and medieval.  Once inside the hill fort you’ll see remains of buildings and property boundaries in the form of circular hollows and ridges.

A walk at Hod Hill can be combined with a visit to the lovely White Horse in Stourpaine although booking is usually necessary.

Hod Hill and Stourpaine are less than a 10 minute drive from Old Red Lion House.
