The Trailway, Blandford Forum

Following the route of the old Somerset and Dorset Railway line, the Trailway is suitable for walking, cycling and horse riding.  The railway line closed to traffic in 1966 and the tracks subsequently removed. The trail runs along a flat, surfaced three metre wide track suitable for pushchairs, mobility vehicles, horses, bicycles and walkers

The largest section provides a continuous route between Blandford Forum and Sturminster Newton – a distance of 9 miles – which takes you through some of North Dorset’s spectacular countryside, towns and villages with views of Hambledon Hill and the meandering River Stour. If the end of the line is too far, the village of Stourpaine and its pub, The White Horse, is 2.5 miles (4km) away.  Additional sections of the route are open between Blandford St Mary and Spetisbury or Stalbridge to the south of Blandford Forum.
